George (and, by inference, his partner, Fran) acknowledge Max and Jenny's initial report of joining their local social life, including an anniversary party. George encourages his parents to furnish their new Florida home exactly as they want, even if this requires work. It is a good challenge. And, generally, George encourages them to live life to the fullest.
(George references plural letters he has receive from them, indicating Lisa was not in possession of the entire record, or that she omitted one or more letters in editing the thesis.)
Apparently George is sending letters in Yiddish to Jenny and receiving replies in English.
GEORGE: Now, to you. From your letters, folks, and from talking to you on the phone last week, things seem to be going well. We here are really pleased that you are taking advantage of all that is offered you there, and making it count.
It sounded like your anniversary party was one helluva good time, and believe me we here all joined with you in enjoying it. Just knowing that you both were enjoying yourselves was enough for us.
As for the details -- getting the apartment really furnished to your satisfaction, this is a minor isue, and as far as I can see a healthy one –– to me, a healthy problem.
As long as you are able to go, and do, and shop, and buy, and exchange, then you're doing okay. Why settle for less, when you know what you want? This is your apartment, and you should fix it up the way you want it so that you can be happy there, as I know you are going to be. So keep it up, and keep up the letters too.
I'm still waiting for a letter from you mom, in English, in exchange for my Jewish one. So how about it, huh?
